Job Description

Adelphi seeks a skilled Behavior Intervention Counselor to deliver comprehensive early childhood behavioral health and social-emotional supports at an Early Childhood Education Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. The counselor will work with children enrolled in Head Start, Early Head Start, and CCDF programs, using trauma-informed, evidence-based practices to promote positive social-emotional development and partner with families, educators, and community providers.

Core responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom observations and comprehensive social-emotional assessments.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and revise individualized behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide direct behavioral interventions and social-emotional supports to children with challenging behaviors.
  • Coach and educate families on positive parenting, behavior management, and child development.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, healthcare providers, and community partners to coordinate services and referrals.
  • Train and mentor classroom staff on trauma-informed care, positive behavior supports, classroom management, and Conscious Discipline® methods.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up for behavioral health, developmental, medical, and community-based services.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation and compliance records consistent with HSPPS, FERPA, HIPAA, tribal, and applicable state/federal requirements.
  • Promote culturally responsive, family-centered, strengths-based practices and participate in interdisciplinary meetings, quality improvement, and program planning.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing behavioral health, mental health, or social-emotional supports to young children and knowledge of early childhood development.
  • Skilled in behavioral observation, assessment, and development of individualized behavior support plans.
  • Proficiency in trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions; experience with Conscious Discipline® strongly preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and providing family education, coaching, and behavioral consultation.
  • Strong documentation, communication, organizational, and coaching skills.
  • Familiarity with Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS) and relevant privacy/regulatory standards.
  • Commitment to delivering culturally responsive, relationship-based, inclusive services.
