The Department of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) seek an outstanding academic pediatric radiologist to serve as Director of Pediatric Ultrasound. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity to further advance a nationally prominent pediatric radiology division within one of the top-ranked children’s hospitals in the United States. This is an on-site position based at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

 

Key Highlights:

  • The Director will provide visionary clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Section of Pediatric Ultrasound within the Division of Pediatric Radiology, which includes over 17 pediatric radiologists and 2 advanced practice providers.
  • This role encompasses oversight of pediatric ultrasound services across UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Magee Women’s Hospital (a primary delivery hospital with a Level III NICU), and affiliated regional sites providing pediatric imaging. The Director will lead efforts to standardize practices, enhance quality and patient safety, and improve operational efficiency across the network.
  • A key priority will be advancing innovation in pediatric ultrasound, including the spearheading the development and clinical integration of emerging technologies such as elastography, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, super-resolution imaging, and artificial intelligence applications.
  • The Director will also contribute actively to the department’s academic mission by:
    • Providing high-quality clinical care
    • Leading educational initiatives, including workstation teaching and didactic conferences for residents and fellows
    • Mentoring trainees and junior faculty
    • Supporting technologist education in advanced ultrasound techniques
    • Strengthening multidisciplinary clinical collaborations
  • The successful candidate will play a central role in driving excellence in clinical care, innovation, and scholarship within the division.

Qualifications:

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
  • Board certification in Radiology
  • Fellowship training and/or subspecialty certification (or eligibility) in Pediatric Radiology
  • Appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, commensurate with experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong record of clinical excellence, academic productivity, and teaching
