Job Description

We’re looking for a skilled locum Trauma Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a busy team in Redding, California. This is a hands‑on clinical role caring for trauma and surgical patients, collaborating closely with a supervising physician and a multidisciplinary team.

Schedule

  • PM shift: 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM

What you’ll do

  • Take patient histories, perform physical exams, formulate assessments and diagnoses, and start or adjust treatment plans within your scope of practice.
  • Manage trauma and surgical patients including ongoing evaluation, treatment, and coordination of care.
  • Order and interpret diagnostics, labs, imaging, and other therapeutic studies as appropriate.
  • Recognize and respond to urgent or emergent situations, initiating life‑saving interventions when needed.
  • Perform and assist with bedside and operative procedures consistent with your credentialed privileges.
  • Provide patient and family education about diagnoses, treatments, medications, and follow‑up care.
  • Facilitate admissions, referrals, discharge planning, and coordination with other facilities and community resources.
  • Prescribe and administer medications and medical devices as permitted by state law and your scope of practice.
  • Complete accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Serve as first or second assist in surgery under the supervision of an approved physician.
  • Assist as a bedside assistant in robotic‑assisted cases when appropriately credentialed and trained.

Required clinical skills and procedures
You should be experienced and competent in:

  • Local anesthesia and laceration repair (including intermediate repairs)
  • Dressing changes, drain and suture removal, superficial wound debridement and closure
  • Basic management of non‑displaced fractures and reduction of fractures with minimal to moderate displacement
  • Reduction of simple dislocations and removal of superficial foreign bodies
  • Hemostasis, packing placement/removal, incision and drainage
  • Cervical spine clearance, chest tube insertion and removal
  • Arterial and central line insertion
  • Partial‑thickness burn management for <10% total body surface area

Requirements

  • Active California NP or PA license
  • Active DEA registration
  • Current ACLS and ATLS certifications
  • Trauma surgery, acute care surgery, or other relevant surgical experience strongly preferred
