Job Description
Join a supportive team in Detroit, Michigan as a Board-Certified Maternal Fetal Medicine physician providing both inpatient and outpatient coverage. You’ll focus on high-risk obstetrical care, ultrasound interpretation, inpatient consultations, and resident supervision, with scheduled call responsibilities.
Schedule and call expectations:
- Typical weekday hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, with in-house coverage for outpatient ultrasound and inpatient consults.
- Weeknights: phone-based call with in-person inpatient support when clinically needed.
- Weekends: 24-hour call coverage Saturday–Sunday.
- Callbacks are minimal—typically about one callback per shift, if any.
- Beginning in January, anticipated recurring coverage will be approximately two times per month, consisting of in-house coverage Thursday–Friday and call coverage Saturday–Sunday.
What you’ll do:
- Manage and round on inpatient MFM patients in collaboration with residents.
- Provide inpatient and phone consultations, performing in-person evaluations when indicated.
- Interpret obstetrical ultrasounds and manage related consults.
- Supervise residents in the high-risk OB clinic as needed.
- Deliver comprehensive care for high-risk and medically complex obstetrical patients.
- Work closely with OB/GYN physicians, residents, and a multidisciplinary care team.
Important to know:
- No delivery coverage, GYN surgery, or GYN call coverage is required.
Procedures you must be comfortable performing:
- Amniocentesis
- Cerclage, including rescue cerclage
- External cephalic version (ECV)
Preferred additional skill:
- Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
Requirements:
- Board Certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine.
- Active Michigan medical license or eligibility via the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC).
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Experience managing high-risk obstetrical patients and strong ultrasound interpretation/consultation skills.
