Locums Trauma Surgery NP/PA — $140/hr, PM Shift, HandsOn Trauma & Surgical Assisting (Redding, CA)

We’re looking for an experienced locum Trauma Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a busy team in Redding, California. This is a hands‑on role caring for trauma and surgical patients—working alongside a supervising physician and a multidisciplinary team to provide acute, procedural, and perioperative care.

Compensation and schedule

• Pay: $140 per hour
• Shift: PM (3:00 PM – 1:00 AM)

What you’ll do

• Evaluate patients: take histories, perform physical exams, formulate assessments and diagnoses, and start or adjust treatment plans within your scope.
• Manage trauma and surgical patients through ongoing evaluation, treatment, and coordination of care.
• Order and interpret diagnostic studies, labs, and imaging; coordinate therapeutic services as needed.
• Recognize and respond to urgent or emergent situations and initiate life‑saving interventions when required.
• Perform and assist with bedside and operating room procedures within your credentialed privileges.
• Provide patient and family education about diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care.
• Facilitate admissions, referrals, discharge planning, and transfers to other facilities or community resources.
• Prescribe and administer medications and medical devices in accordance with state law and your scope of practice.
• Complete accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Serve as first or second surgical assist under the supervising physician, and assist as a bedside assistant during robotic‑assisted cases when credentialed and trained.

Procedures and clinical skills expected
You should have demonstrated experience and competency in:

• Local anesthesia and laceration repair (including intermediate repairs)
• Dressing changes, drain and suture removal, superficial wound debridement and closure
• Incision and drainage, hemostasis and packing placement/removal, removal of superficial foreign bodies
• Basic management of non‑displaced fractures; fracture reduction with minimal to moderate displacement; reduction of simple dislocations
• Cervical spine clearance
• Chest tube insertion and removal
• Arterial and central line insertion
• Partial‑thickness burn management (<10% total body surface area)

Requirements

• Active California NP or PA license
• Active DEA registration
• Current ACLS and ATLS certifications
• Trauma surgery, acute care surgery, or other relevant surgical experience strongly preferred
