Locum Critical Care & Trauma Surgery Physician — Worcester, MA (3+ Month Assignment)

Join a dynamic trauma and surgical critical care team in Worcester, Massachusetts, covering inpatient trauma and ICU responsibilities. This locum opportunity offers a fast-paced clinical environment with robust multidisciplinary support and a minimum commitment of three months.

Compensation and logistics

• Pay: $325–$400 per hour
• Assignment length: 3 months or longer
• Current need: 16 open shifts in December; additional coverage expected January–March
• Travel: Paid

Schedule

• Weekday clinical shifts: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Weekday call: 4:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend call: 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM

Clinical expectations

• Manage an inpatient trauma census averaging 30–50 patients
• Daytime coverage by two attending surgeons
• Respond to approximately 10–20 trauma activations per 24-hour period
• Case mix predominantly blunt trauma (≈90–95%)
• Some call shifts include emergency general surgery coverage
• Handle roughly 0–8 emergency general surgery consults per shift, depending on volume
• Perform approximately 0–3 emergency operative cases as needed (e.g., perforated viscus)

Requirements

• Active Massachusetts medical license required
• Surgical Critical Care fellowship completion required
• DEA registration and CSR required
• Experience with Epic EMR
