Locum Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician — Amarillo, TX (Level II Trauma Center)

A Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, Texas seeks a Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician to provide ongoing coverage within a high-volume, well-supported surgical program. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team managing a diverse trauma and acute care caseload.

Facility and Schedule

• 495-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, TX
• Ongoing locum assignment with shift-based coverage
• 24-hour in-house shifts, including scheduled backup call
• 30-minute callback response time when on backup call

Clinical Volume and Services

• ~1,618 trauma activations and >1,000 trauma admissions annually
• Nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases per year
• Responsibilities include in-house trauma coverage, ACS coverage, trauma activations, and multidisciplinary patient management

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients
• Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries
• Provide acute care surgery consultations and procedures
• Participate in trauma activations and coordinate care with emergency medicine, critical care, hospitalist, and surgical teams
• Accurately document patient encounters in the facility’s EMR

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
• Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred
• Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
• Current ATLS certification
• Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience and strong clinical decision-making in fast-paced settings
