Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician

A Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo Texas is seeking a Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician to provide ongoing coverage in a high-volume, well-supported surgical program. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse trauma and acute care surgery caseload.

Position Highlights

• Facility: 495-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center
• Ongoing locum opportunity
• Shift-based coverage in a collaborative multidisciplinary practice

Practice Details

The program provides comprehensive trauma and acute care surgery services with annual volumes including:

• Approximately 1,618 trauma activations
• Over 1,000 trauma admissions
• Nearly 500 acute care surgery operative cases annually

Coverage includes:

• In-house trauma coverage
• Acute Care Surgery (ACS) coverage
• Backup call coverage as scheduled
• 24Hour shifts including call
• 30-minute callback response time when on backup call

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients
• Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries
• Provide acute care surgery consultations and procedures
• Participate in trauma activations and multidisciplinary patient care
• Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospitalists, and surgical staff
• Document patient encounters accurately using the facility's electronic medical record

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
• Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred
• Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
• Current ATLS certification
• Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience
• Strong clinical decision-making skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
