Job Description
Board-certified or board-eligible Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant needed for locum assignment in Portsmouth, VA. Primarily inpatient adult cardiothoracic surgery coverage with daytime clinical duties plus night and weekend call.
Rotation & Schedule
- Minimum commitment: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
- Regular hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
- Night call: 3:00 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekend call: 24-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 AM)
- Weekend rounding required
- EMR: Epic
Patient Mix & Volume
- Adult patients only
- Inpatient: 75%; Outpatient: 25%
- Typical patients on rounds: 5–10
Core Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient cardiothoracic surgery care for adult patients
- Perform daily rounds and evaluate postoperative patients
- Assist with patient management, treatment planning, and care coordination
- Respond to clinical needs and consults during assigned night and weekend call
- Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, nursing, and ancillary staff
- Complete timely, accurate documentation in Epic
- Participate in weekend rounds to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- PA: Board-Certified or Board-Eligible
- Active Virginia medical license
- Active DEA registration
- Prior cardiothoracic surgery experience required
- Availability for 2-week on / 2-week off rotation
