Full-Time Locum Coverage | 7 On / 7 Off | Inpatient Psychiatry
Ascension St. Elizabeth is seeking two full-time Locum Psychiatrists to provide inpatient behavioral health coverage beginning October 12, 2026.
This is a 100% onsite inpatient psychiatry opportunity with a 7-on / 7-off schedule. Both day and night coverage are available.

Position Overview
The Locum Psychiatrist will provide timely, clinically appropriate psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and management of patients assigned to the inpatient behavioral health service.
The psychiatrist will be responsible for managing an assigned inpatient census while working collaboratively with nursing, behavioral health staff, social services, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
The expected daily census is generally 10–15 patients per clinical day, including routine follow-up visits, new admissions, and discharges. Actual patient volume may vary depending on acuity, admissions, discharges, staffing, and other clinical responsibilities.
There is no minimum RVU requirement for this assignment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide psychiatric evaluation and management of assigned inpatient behavioral health patients

Complete initial psychiatric evaluations and admission assessments
-
Conduct daily follow-up evaluations
-
Develop and update individualized treatment plans
-
Manage psychiatric medications and make clinically appropriate medication adjustments
-
Assess patient response to treatment and modify treatment plans as needed
-
Evaluate new admissions and determine appropriate psychiatric treatment
-
Complete discharge evaluations, medication reconciliation, and discharge documentation
-
Provide appropriate crisis intervention and management of acute psychiatric conditions
-
Assess suicide risk, behavioral concerns, psychosis, mood disorders, and other psychiatric presentations
-
Work closely with nursing, social work, therapy, case management, and other members of the behavioral health team
-
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning
-
Communicate appropriately with patients, families, and members of the care team
-
Complete all evaluations, progress notes, orders, and required documentation within applicable hospital and regulatory timeframes
-
Follow hospital policies, behavioral health protocols, and applicable standards of psychiatric care
-
Provide appropriate handoff and communication between shifts and covering providers
Patient Volume

Qualifications
-
MD or DO
-
Must be a true Board Eligible or Board Certified Psychiatrist
-
Completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency program
-
Current and unrestricted medical license or ability to obtain required state licensure
-
Eligible for hospital credentialing and privileges
-
DEA registration as required
-
Current required certifications in accordance with hospital policy
-
Previous inpatient psychiatry experience strongly preferred
-
Must be comfortable independently managing an inpatient psychiatric census
-
Must demonstrate strong clinical judgment and timely decision-making
Adolescent Unit Requirement
Providers interested in working on the adolescent inpatient unit must be fellowship trained in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Candidates without Child & Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship training may still be considered for appropriate adult inpatient coverage.

The ideal candidate will be:

Comfortable working in an inpatient behavioral health environment

Experienced managing approximately 10–15 psychiatric patients per clinical day

Able to efficiently manage admissions, follow-ups, and discharges
-
Clinically confident and able to make independent treatment decisions
-
Comfortable managing acute and complex psychiatric presentations
-
Collaborative with nursing and multidisciplinary behavioral health teams
-
Reliable with documentation and hospital compliance requirements
-
Able to commit to a consistent 7-on / 7-off schedule
