Locum Night-Shift Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant — Boston, MA (Inpatient)

Boston, MA — Locum tenens, night-shift inpatient Thoracic Surgery PA covering a temporary maternity leave.

Compensation

• $130–$140 per hour

Schedule

• 12-hour nights (approx. 6:30 PM–7:00 AM)
• 2–3 shifts per week; days vary Monday–Sunday based on coverage needs
• No call

Clinical Setting and Census

• Inpatient thoracic surgery: floor, step-down, OR recovery, and ICU
• Daily census: ~15–25 patients per shift
• Overnight APP role with an overnight thoracic surgery fellow available as clinical resource; dedicated hospital code team present

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve as primary overnight APP for the thoracic surgery service
• Round on and manage ~15–25 postoperative and critically ill patients per shift
• Provide care across floor, step-down, OR recovery, and ICU
• Manage chest tubes, Blake drains, and pigtail catheters
• Perform patient assessment, treatment planning, admissions, and H&Ps for transfers
• Complete initial evaluations of transferred patients; hand off to daytime team
• Respond to urgent clinical issues and act as first responder to codes until appropriate team arrives
• Collaborate with overnight fellow during high-volume periods and ER/consults

Preferred Experience

• Postoperative thoracic surgery care
• Chest tube/Blake drain/pigtail management
• ICU and step-down patient management
• ABG interpretation
• Management of NGTs, G-tubes, and J-tubes/feeding tubes

Minimum Requirements

• NCCPA certification
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience
• ACLS and BLS certifications
• DEA registration
