Locum Emergency Medicine Physician - Overland Park, KS (ABEM, 2+ yrs)

We’re looking for an experienced Emergency Medicine locum to join a busy, high-efficiency ED in Overland Park, Kansas. You’ll work rotational 9-hour shifts (mornings, middays, nights) with weekend and night coverage as needed - no call required. New providers complete a two-day orientation that includes a shadow period and EMR training.

What the shift looks like

• Rotational schedule with day and night coverage needs
• 9-hour shifts; some weekend and night shifts required
• Two shadow/orientation shifts to get you up to speed
• Fast-paced environment averaging 1.6-1.8 patients per hour, mostly ESI 2-3
• Nurse/APP triage handles lower-acuity patients; typical admission rate ~35%

The Emergency Department

• 24 ED beds plus 7 vertical pathway spaces and 2 intake rooms
• Level II Trauma Center capabilities; standard emergency caseload (cardiac, stroke, infections, minor injuries)
• Minimum daytime staffing: 1 physician + 1 APP, with full ER support staff including critical care nurses and techs
• Annual ED volume ≈ 40,000 visits
• Situated in a vibrant, affluent community serving Overland Park and Leawood

Facility and resources

• 190-bed acute care hospital with Accredited Chest Pain Center and Primary Stroke Center designations and rapid-response protocols
• Advanced tools such as remote ECG monitoring and electronic medication management
• Supportive staff and established processes to keep patient flow moving

Other details

• Primary assignment is the main ED; two associated FSER sites see about 13-17 patients/day each and may occasionally receive some hours (TBD)
• All travel expenses (flights, hotel, rental car or mileage, tolls, parking, etc.) are reimbursed 100% on top of your rate
• A dedicated 24/7 locums consultant will assist with credentialing and scheduling

Requirements

• ABEM board certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Medicine experience
• Active Kansas medical license and DEA required
