Locum Tenens Critical Care (ICU) Physician - Marlborough, MA (6-12 Months)

We’re looking for a locums Critical Care physician to cover a 100% inpatient ICU service in Marlborough, Massachusetts. This is a long-term assignment (6-12 months, with possibility to extend) managing a small, active ICU independently. Local candidates are preferred, but travel physicians will be considered depending on availability and travel costs.

Compensation: $300-$350 per hour

Schedule

• Preferred: 24-hour coverage (not required).
• Day shift: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM.
• Overnight call: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
• Coverage duration: 6-12 months, with potential extension.

What you’ll do

• Provide comprehensive inpatient critical care to ICU patients as the solo attending.
• Independently manage roughly 6-8 patients in an 8-bed active ICU.
• Perform and manage bedside critical care procedures, including central and arterial line placement, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, and paracentesis.
• Intubation can be performed when needed; ED and anesthesia coverage are available to support airway management.
• Work collaboratively with hospital staff to coordinate care and develop treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic EMR.

Clinical setting

• 100% inpatient critical care practice.
• 10-bed ICU with 8 beds currently staffed/open; typical census is 6-8 patients.
• Solo physician coverage model.
• Epic EMR.
• Procedural equipment available at the bedside, including AmbuScope; GlideScope is available for intubations if performed.

Requirements

• Active Massachusetts medical license (required).
• Completion of a Critical Care fellowship (required).
• Prior ICU/critical care experience (required).
• DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration (CSR) required.
• Local candidates preferred; travel candidates considered based on availability and travel costs.
