Trauma-Focused Neurosurgeon (Board-Certified/Eligible) - Rapid City, SD, Level II Trauma Center

Join a well-established neurosurgical team in Rapid City, South Dakota, focused exclusively on acute care and trauma. This role is centered on managing traumatic neurosurgical injuries at an ACS-verified Level II Trauma Center, so you’ll be working in a high-acuity setting where quick thinking and decisive clinical judgment matter every day. There are no elective cases - this position is 100% acute care/trauma.

What the role looks like

• Roughly 183 flexible 24-hour shifts per year
• Primary responsibilities include evaluation, diagnosis, operative management, and postoperative care for trauma patients
• Care is delivered in emergency and inpatient settings with rapid response expectations
• You’ll collaborate closely with Trauma, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and other multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in follow-up clinics to maintain continuity of care
• Supervise and work alongside experienced APPs and contribute to standardized clinical protocols
• Engage in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• MD or DO with Neurosurgery board certification or eligibility
• Fellowship training in trauma or demonstrable trauma experience required
• Unrestricted South Dakota medical license (or ability to obtain)
• ATLS certification preferred
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-acuity settings with strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
