Locum Emergency Medicine Physician - Council Bluffs, IA

We’re looking for an experienced Emergency Medicine physician to cover shifts in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This locum position offers flexible scheduling in a busy, collaborative ED with a moderate annual patient volume - ideal if you enjoy fast-paced clinical work with a supportive team.

Key details

• Schedule: 4-12 shifts per month
• Shift length: 8 hours
• Available shifts: 6:30 AM-2:30 PM, 1:30 PM-10:30 PM, 9:30 PM-6:30 AM
• Annual ED volume: ~22,000 patients
• EMR: Epic; dictation: Dragon; no scribes

Patient mix and acuity

• Discharge rate: ~77%
• Admission rate: ~14%
• Left before treatment complete: ~4%
• Observation: ~2.8%
• Transfers: ~2.5%
• Locums physicians will have limited trauma responsibilities

What you’ll do

• Provide comprehensive emergency care across a range of acuity
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients presenting to the ED
• Respond to codes and other emergent situations as needed
• Perform appropriate emergency procedures and interventions
• Collaborate closely with nurses, consultants, and the rest of the care team
• Complete accurate, timely documentation in Epic using Dragon

What we’re looking for

• Active Iowa medical license and DEA registration
• Current ACLS, BLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications
• Prior Emergency Medicine experience required
