Locums OB Hospitalist Physician - Corpus Christi, TX (Sept 14 & 18; Level IV Maternal Care)

We are seeking an experienced Locum OB Hospitalist to provide short-term coverage in Corpus Christi, Texas. This role is best suited to a physician comfortable working independently in a high-volume, high-acuity obstetrical environment.

Assignment details

• Coverage dates: September 14 and September 18
• Schedule: 24-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 8:00 AM)
• Annual birth volume: ~4,000 deliveries
• Maternal level: Level IV
• NICU level: Level III
• EMR: Meditech

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive OB hospitalist coverage including OBED and obstetrical triage
• Evaluate, admit, manage, and discharge unassigned obstetrical and gynecologic patients
• Respond to labor, deliveries, obstetrical emergencies, and acute maternal conditions
• Manage complex and high-risk obstetrical patients, including MFM consults and TOLAC cases
• Provide emergency care until the assigned physician arrives and assumes care
• Perform deliveries and assist with complicated deliveries; first-assist and provide surgical assistance for cesarean sections when available
• Provide emergency surgical management for unassigned gynecologic patients
• Accept transfers and coordinate transport for critically ill obstetrical or gynecologic patients
• Respond to major obstetrical emergencies, including hemorrhage and activation of massive transfusion protocol
• Conduct histories and physicals, coordinate ongoing care, and document accurately and promptly in the EMR
• Collaborate with nursing, physicians, and multidisciplinary care teams
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and fetal monitoring initiatives

Candidate requirements

• Minimum 5 years of OB experience
• Proven ability to manage high-acuity, complex obstetrical patients independently
• Comfortable working in an OBED and managing unassigned patients
• Strong background in emergency obstetrical care and operative procedures
• Experience with complicated deliveries, TOLAC, and maternal-fetal medicine cases
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• NCC fetal heart monitoring certification preferred
