Locum Tenens Night-Shift General Cardiologist - Weekend In-House Coverage (Asheville, NC)

A leading healthcare system in Asheville, NC seeks a Board-Certified General Cardiologist to provide in-house night coverage for weekend cardiology services. This role is ideal for a cardiologist experienced in managing acute cardiac conditions in a hospital setting and confident caring for critically ill patients overnight. The primary need is Friday-Sunday night coverage; candidates with alternative or additional availability will be considered.

Position details

• In-house night coverage, primarily weekends (preferred Friday-Sunday nights)
• Flexible scheduling; additional or alternate availability considered

Shift schedule (typical)

• Friday night: ~5:00 PM-7:00 AM (start may be delayed to 8:00 PM for commuting)
• Saturday night: 6:00 PM-7:00 AM
• Sunday night: 6:00 PM-7:00 AM

Key responsibilities

• Provide overnight in-house cardiology coverage and manage CCU admissions
• Care for critically ill cardiac patients and oversee ongoing inpatient management
• Evaluate and treat acute cardiovascular emergencies, including STEMI, unstable VT, VF, and cardiogenic shock
• Interpret ECGs and echocardiograms promptly and accurately
• Collaborate with Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Heart Failure teams (available for at-home backup)
• Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the EMR

Qualifications

• MD or DO with Board Certification in Cardiology
• Active North Carolina medical license and DEA registration
• Demonstrated experience managing critically ill cardiac patients and ICU admissions
• Strong ECG interpretation and echocardiography reading skills
