Acute Care Surgeon opening in Norwich, CT
Acute Care Surgery | Level III Trauma Center | Surgical Critical Care
An established Acute Care Surgery division in Norwich, Connecticut is seeking a fellowship-trained Surgical Critical Care / Acute Care Surgeon to join a high-volume, broad-scope practice serving eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Opportunity Highlights:
- Acute Care Surgery opportunity in Norwich, Connecticut
- Join an established Acute Care Surgery team
- Practice at an ACS-verified Level III Trauma Center
- Regional emergency general surgery referral center
- Broad operative practice including emergency general surgery, trauma, surgical critical care, and elective general surgery
- High-volume, high-acuity emergency general surgery service
- Surgeons individually average approximately 330 cases per year
- Serve a broad geographic catchment area of approximately 400,000 people
- Surgical ICU support with 24/7 in-house experienced APP coverage
- Established chest wall injury program with VATS, thoracotomy, and surgical stabilization of rib fractures
- Robust abdominal wall reconstruction practice with approximately 50 complex abdominal wall reconstructions annually
- Robotics integrated into both emergency and elective general surgery practice
- Access to elective robotic operating block time
- Opportunity to build an elective general surgery practice aligned with clinical interests
- Potential focus areas include hernia, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, foregut surgery, colorectal surgery, chest wall surgery, endocrine surgery, or other general surgery interests
- Opportunities in trauma administration, quality improvement, robotics, emergency general surgery, critical care, and surgical education
- Surgical education opportunities with a Surgical PA Fellowship and general surgery residents
- Faculty appointment opportunities with a medical school
- Community-hospital breadth with tertiary-level support through a larger integrated health system
- No J-1 or H-1B sponsorship available
Compensation and Benefits:

Candidate Requirements:
- MD or DO
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
- Fellowship trained in Surgical Critical Care or Acute Care Surgery
- Connecticut medical license or eligibility
- Comfortable independently managing complex acute care surgical and critically ill patients
- Interest in broad-based, highly operative general surgery
- Experience in chest wall injury, robotic general surgery, or abdominal wall reconstruction welcomed but not required
- Strong collaboration, communication, and team-based care skills
- Interest in helping shape a growing Acute Care Surgery program
