Job Description

Join a well-established surgical team at a 495-bed Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, Texas, where you’ll care for high-acuity patients in a busy, supportive environment. This role offers a predictable 24-hour shift schedule, strong APP and multidisciplinary backup, and plenty of operative and trauma experience - plus the chance to be involved with a new residency program launching in July 2026.

What you’ll do

  • Manage operative and non-operative trauma and acute care surgical patients, including leading trauma activations and emergency surgical cases.
  • Provide ICU care for critically injured and medically complex patients in the dedicated Surgical ICU.
  • Participate in ACS services and inpatient consultations, working closely with experienced APPs and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation.
  • Opportunity to take on leadership as Trauma Medical Director (stipend available).

Schedule and coverage

  • 24-hour shifts, roughly 151 shifts per year (about 12-13 shifts per month).
  • Structured 24/7 in-house trauma coverage with organized backup.
  • Additional backup-only shifts available for extra earning.

Compensation and perks

  • Base salary: $544,000 annually.
  • Backup-only shifts: $500/night.
  • Trauma Medical Director stipend: $80,000 annually.
  • Clinic space available in an on-campus medical office building.
  • Predictable shift structure, high patient volume, and strong institutional support for clinical practice and quality work.
  • Opportunity for academic involvement with a new residency program starting July 2026.

Qualifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
  • Trauma or Surgical Critical Care fellowship preferred.
  • Eligible for Texas medical licensure.
  • Prior trauma or high-acuity surgical experience is preferred.
