Cardiac Surgery NP / PA opening in Boston, MA
Full-Time | 40-Hour Rotating Schedule | Inpatient Cardiac Surgery | ICU & Stepdown Coverage
An academic medical center in Boston, Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its Cardiac Surgery service and participate in the preoperative and postoperative management of complex cardiovascular surgical patients.
Opportunity Highlights:
- Full-time Cardiac Surgery APP opportunity
- 40-hour rotating schedule
- Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant considered
- Primarily inpatient Cardiac Surgery practice
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care
- Perform histories and physical examinations
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing
- Write medication and treatment orders
- Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons and surgical house staff
- Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient case conferences
- Coordinate discharge planning and communication with cardiologists and primary care physicians
- Practice across the CVICU, CCU, MICU, Cardiac Surgery Stepdown Unit, PCU, and Cardiology units
- Evaluate patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Provide patient and family education
- Manage highly acute postoperative cardiac surgical patients
Procedural Responsibilities:
- Central venous line placement and removal
- Arterial line placement
- Chest tube insertion and removal
- Swan-Ganz catheter placement
- Temporary pacing wire removal
- Intubation
- Intra-aortic balloon pump troubleshooting
- Intra-aortic balloon pump catheter removal
- Suture removal
- Initiate blood products for hemodynamically unstable patients
Compensation and Benefits:
- Annual base salary range: **$133,120 – $240,000**

Candidate Requirements:
- Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Master’s degree
- Current Massachusetts NP or PA license
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification
- 3-5 years of related NP/PA experience
- Prior experience caring for highly acute patients on a surgical service
- Strong cardiac surgical and critical care assessment skills
- Comfortable performing invasive bedside procedures
- Ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication, decision-making, and clinical problem-solving skills
