Locums Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon - Level I Trauma Center PRN, Richmond VA (Ongoing 24-hr Call)

We’re looking for a Board-Certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in trauma to provide ongoing PRN locum tenens coverage in the Richmond, VA area. You’ll be supporting a busy Level I Trauma Center by taking on-call shifts, managing consults, performing surgeries, and rounding on inpatients alongside an experienced ortho trauma team.

Schedule

• Ongoing PRN coverage to fill gaps in the call schedule
• 24-hour on-site call shifts, including overnight coverage
• Typical patient volume: roughly 8 patients per shift

About the facility

• Large, 460+ bed acute care hospital with both a Level I Trauma Center and a Level I Burn Center
• Very busy ED (95K+ visits per year), with a dedicated pediatric ED and dual helipads
• 15+ ORs, including robotic surgery capability
• Established orthopedic trauma service with attending physicians and APP support
• Meditech inpatient charting and eClinicalWorks outpatient systems

What you’ll do

• Provide on-site orthopedic trauma call coverage
• Evaluate and manage inpatient orthopedic trauma consultations
• Perform operative management for trauma-related injuries
• Conduct inpatient rounding and coordinate ongoing care
• Manage complex fractures and other traumatic musculoskeletal conditions
• Collaborate closely with physicians and advanced practice providers on the trauma team

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree
• Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery
• Fellowship training in orthopedic trauma
• Current Virginia medical license or ability to obtain one
