Locum Tenens OB/GYN Physician - 24-Hour Call Coverage (Petersburg, VA)

Board-certified OB/GYN needed for locum tenens coverage in Petersburg, VA to provide 24-hour call coverage and scheduled clinic visits during provider absence.

Schedule & practice details

• Shift: 24-hour coverage (7:00 AM - 7:00 AM)
• Coverage dates: December 17-24, 2026 and December 31, 2026
• Coverage potential: ongoing opportunities possible
• Call ratio: 1:4
• Clinic volume: ~20 scheduled patients/day
• Call-back volume: <1 call-back per 24-hour shift on average; calls triaged via answering service
• Setting: hospital-based OB/GYN with L&D and postpartum coverage
• Facility capacity: 9 labor & delivery beds; 20 postpartum beds
• Average nursery admissions: 2-3 per day
• EMR: Epic
• High-risk obstetrics: MFM manages most high-risk patients

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour OB/GYN call coverage and respond to patient needs
• Conduct scheduled outpatient clinic visits
• Manage labor and deliveries (vaginal and cesarean)
• Evaluate and treat gynecologic emergencies (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion)
• Perform suction D&Cs and manage abnormal uterine bleeding
• Document encounters and treatment plans in Epic
• Coordinate care with MFM and other clinical staff as needed

Requirements

• Board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG)
• Active Virginia medical license
• Active Virginia DEA registration and Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
• BLS certification
• Availability to provide 24-hour call coverage on the specified dates
