Locum Emergency Medicine NP/PA - Level II Trauma ED, 100% Clinical, Overland Park KA

We’re looking for an experienced Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a Level II trauma center in Overland Park, Kansas on a locum tenens basis. This is a fully clinical role in a busy ED that primarily manages moderate-acuity patients.

What you’ll do

• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who present to the emergency department.
• Manage a broad range of acute illnesses and injuries, focusing mostly on ESI Level 2 and 3 patients.
• Create treatment plans, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications when appropriate.
• Work closely with emergency physicians and the multidisciplinary care team to coordinate care.
• Stabilize patients and arrange admissions, transfers, or discharges as needed.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
• Provide direct patient care only - there are no administrative duties.

Emergency department snapshot

• 24 ER beds, plus 7 vertical pathway spaces and 2 intake rooms
• Patient volume: roughly 1-1.5 patients per hour
• Patient acuity: predominantly ESI Level 2 and 3
• Trauma designation: Level II
• Role is 100% clinical (no administrative work)

Qualifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• At least 2 years of emergency medicine experience
• Active Kansas license or eligible to obtain one
• Current facility-required certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, etc.)
