Job Summary:
St. Mark’s Hospital is seeking a dedicated Orthopedic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our orthopedic surgery team, with primary focus on Orthopedic Total Joint Surgery and Orthopedic Hand Surgery. This role offers a diverse blend of first-assist surgical responsibilities, outpatient clinic care, and inpatient rounding.The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, patient-centered professional who is eager to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Opportunity Details:
- First assist in total joint replacement procedures, hand surgeries, and related orthopedic operations.
- Participate in preoperative preparation and postoperative management.
- Perform closures, dressing changes, splinting, and other perioperative tasks within scope of practice.
- Evaluate new and established patients for total joint and hand conditions.
- Conduct postoperative follow-ups and shared visits with supervising surgeons.
- Order and interpret X‑rays, MRIs, and other diagnostics.
- Provide patient education regarding surgical expectations, recovery timelines, and conservative treatment options.
- Perform minor in-office procedures such as splinting and wound assessments.
- Round on hospitalized orthopedic patients, with emphasis on total joint and postoperative hand surgery care.
- Assess patient progress, update care plans, and communicate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Assist with discharge planning, patient instructions, and documentation.
- Valid Utah PA‑C or NP licensure (or ability to obtain).
- Experience in orthopedics, total joint, hand surgery, or surgical specialties preferred; motivated new graduates will also be considered.
- BLS/ACLS required or obtained before start date.
- Strong communication, procedural, and clinical decision‑making skills.
- Ability to function both independently and collaboratively within a surgical team.
