Job Description
AdventHealth, a leading faith-based health system with 55 hospitals across nine states, is seeking a dynamic, board‑certified physician with post‑training Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership experience to serve as Associate Chief Academic Officer for the West Florida Division. Based in Tampa, you will join an expanding GME enterprise: AdventHealth Tampa launched its Internal Medicine residency in 2023 and added General Surgery and OB/GYN in 2024, while Family Medicine residencies began at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel (2024) and AdventHealth Ocala (2025). These programs reflect our commitment to training compassionate, skilled physicians and growing regional educational capacity.
Role overview
The Associate CAO will strengthen relationships with medical staff and provide academic and administrative oversight for GME at assigned participating clinical sites and programs. You will support a positive clinical learning environment, ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements, and act as the DIO’s designee for assigned accreditation matters. Final institutional oversight resides with the Chief Academic Officer/Designated Institutional Official.
Key responsibilities
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, and faculty on academic and administrative matters.
- Promote a culture of learning aligned with the mission of AdventHealth Graduate Medical Education.
- Ensure compliance with GME department policies, Human Resources standards, and applicable accreditation requirements.
- Review and secure site approval for annual operating and capital budgets for assigned programs.
- Advocate for and ensure appropriate protected time for program directors and faculty to fulfill educational and leadership duties.
- Coordinate promptly with the sponsoring institution and accrediting bodies for documentation, information requests, and site visits; serve as DIO designee for official ACGME business as assigned.
- Address trainee, faculty, and program concerns by meeting with Program Directors, associate leaders, residents, fellows, and medical students; report outcomes to the CAO/DIO and GMEC.
- Lead Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) visits at primary and participating sites.
- Partner with the Medical Education Administrative Director, GME managers, GME staff, and Medical Research to expand educational and scholarly opportunities.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain and strengthen educational leadership competencies.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the sponsoring institution’s CAO/DIO and the assigned clinical/participating site.
Qualifications
- Board certification in relevant specialty and demonstrated post‑training experience in GME leadership.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and administrative skills with a commitment to trainee welfare and educational excellence.
