Clinical volume and support

• Annual ER volume: 30,000
• Typical cases per day: 1–2
• Patient population: Adult and geriatric
• OR resources: 1 cardiac OR, 1 hybrid OR
• Support staff: First assist available; experience with endoscopic saphenous vein harvest
• EMR: Epic
• Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance: Provided

Required clinical competencies and procedures

• Adult and congenital cardiac surgery
• Coronary revascularization: CABG, off-pump CABG, arterial revascularization, redo coronary revascularization
• Valve surgery: valve repair and replacement, including mitral valve repair
• Aortic and vascular: thoracic aortic aneurysm management, open aneurysm repair
• Thoracic procedures: thoracotomy lung biopsy, lung resections, pneumonectomy, decortication, mediastinal surgery, mediastinotomy and biopsy
• Emergency/thoracic procedures: tube thoracostomy, pericardial window, tracheostomy
• Bronchoscopy: flexible and rigid
• Structural heart procedures and hybrid/cath lab support (preferred)
• Impella support: insertion, removal, and bailout experience required
• Preferred: experience in general thoracic surgery

Credentials and requirements

• Board certified (BC)
• Active Kentucky medical license or willingness to obtain
• Clean professional record
• BLS current
• Self-query NPDB report (pulled within 30 days)
