Locum tenens cardiovascular surgeon needed in Worcester, MA to provide call-only inpatient coverage from June 26, 2026 – July 13, 2026. Coverage is via beeper; response and call-ratio details to be determined. This assignment addresses scheduling needs; agency covers travel, lodging, and malpractice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on-call cardiovascular surgery coverage and respond to beeper consultations.
• Manage rounding for unassigned patients as required and collaborate with the care team to ensure continuity.
• Document care accurately and promptly in Cerner EMR.

Clinical expectations

• Average daily consult/volume: ~4.
• Broad operative and procedural competence expected, including adult, pediatric and neonatal surgery; trauma and general surgical procedures (e.g., appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, laparoscopic cases); head/neck and breast procedures; OB/GYN procedures (e.g., C-section, hysterectomy, D&C); GI endoscopy (upper and lower); basic orthopedics/hand procedures; airway and ventilator management; chest tube and central line placement, PA catheter placement; vascular surgery (aneurysm repairs, arterial bypasses, peripheral vascular procedures, vascular access/AV shunts); selected neonatal/complex congenital procedures (PDA ligation, abdominal wall defects, diaphragmatic hernia, etc.). Laser certification and other specialty skills a plus.

Credentials

• Board certified (BC required).
• Massachusetts medical license required.
• BLS required; fellowship training preferred.
• Hospital-temporary privileges are available; permanent hospital privileges not required.

Facility & systems

• Inpatient setting using Cerner EMR.
