Locums General Surgery Physician

We are seeking a Locums General Surgery Physician to provide hospital call coverage at a Level III Trauma Center in Bay City, MI. This opportunity is ideal for a board-certified surgeon seeking consistent 24-hour call coverage in a collaborative acute care setting.

Assignment Details

• Shift Type: 24-Hour On-Call Coverage
• Schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:00 AM
• Coverage need: approximately 9–11 days per month
• Weekend coverage required
• Coverage Type: Hospital call only

Practice Setting

• Level III Trauma Center
• Coverage includes:
• In-hospital consults
• Emergency Department trauma call
• General surgery call
• Transfer call center patients
• Average patient volume: 5–8 consults per 24-hour shift
• EMR: Cerner

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive adult general surgery and trauma call coverage
• Evaluate and manage emergency surgical consults and trauma patients
• Perform inpatient and emergency surgical procedures as needed
• Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, hospital staff, and specialists
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Cerner EMR

Required Procedures & Skills

Candidates must be comfortable performing:

• Adult general surgical procedures
• Trauma surgery cases
• Central line insertion
• Chest tube insertion
• Abdominal surgical procedures
• Vascular access procedures
• Cholecystectomy

Requirements

• Board Certified in General Surgery required
• Active Michigan medical license required
• Active DEA required
• Must be a local/drive-in candidate
• Strong trauma and acute care surgery experience preferred
