Join Prisma Health Richland Hospital as a locum tenens Physician Assistant supporting the Neurosurgery service in Columbia, SC. This inpatient role covers 12-hour night shifts (6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.), including weekends, for a 38-week assignment from September 1, 2026 to May 25, 2027. Three openings available. All travel, lodging, rental car, mileage and malpractice are billable.

Scope of work

• Provide night- and weekend-focused inpatient neurosurgery coverage, including ER and acute care consultations and perioperative management.
• Perform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, manage surgical and postoperative care, and collaborate with attending neurosurgeons and multidisciplinary teams.
• Document all encounters, procedures, and plans in Epic.

Patient and facility

• Patient mix: ~90% adults, 10% pediatrics.
• EMR: Epic (experienced users may test out; virtual training available Tuesdays).

Required qualifications

• PA with board certification in Neurosurgery and a minimum of 2 years post-training clinical experience.
• Active SC medical license required (privileging timeline varies).
• DEA registration.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS.
• Clean malpractice and background history; previous dismissals require prior discussion.
• Local applicants within a 60-mile radius are not eligible; former Prisma employees must have been separated ≥1 full calendar year.

Privileges, credentialing, and logistics

• Hospital privileges required. Expect credentialing to take approximately 60–90 days.
• Active SC license: privileging may take up to 4 months; without SC license: 5–6 months.
• Coverage type: clinical only; no on-call responsibilities beyond scheduled shifts.

• Current CV, completed Qualivis Presentation Form, and Qualivis Questionnaire.
• List all requested time off on presentation form at submission.
• Must be out of training with at least 2 years of practice and board certified.
