Locum Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular Surgeon — 24‑Hour Coverage, Level II Trauma Center (Kearney, NE)

A Level II Trauma Center in Kearney, NE seeks a locum cardiothoracic surgeon to provide 24-hour cardiothoracic surgery coverage, including trauma-related thoracic care. Ideal candidates are board-certified cardiovascular or cardiothoracic surgeons experienced in both cardiac and thoracic procedures and comfortable managing surgical call in a busy hospital setting.

Position details

• Location: Kearney, Nebraska
• Setting: Hospital-based, Level II Trauma Center
• Coverage: 24-hour cardiothoracic surgery coverage with night and weekend on-call responsibilities
• EMR: Epic

Clinical responsibilities

• Provide continuous cardiothoracic surgical coverage and respond to consults/emergencies
• Evaluate, operate on, and manage cardiac and thoracic surgical patients (pre-, intra-, and post-operative care)
• Perform inpatient rounding and postoperative management
• Participate in trauma-related thoracic surgery as required by the Level II trauma service
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, and OR/surgical staff
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic

Required procedures/skills

• Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
• Heart valve repair and replacement
• General thoracic surgery procedures
• Trauma-related thoracic surgical care in a Level II Trauma Center

Qualifications

• MD or DO
• Board certified in Cardiovascular or Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Active Nebraska medical license strongly preferred; active IMLC participants considered
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Active DEA registration
