Job Description

Join a collaborative anesthesia team in Midland, Michigan, providing full-scope care across inpatient and outpatient settings. This locum assignment offers scheduled day shifts with optional call, and the potential for additional coverage from September through December.

Assignment details

  • Coverage dates (initial block):
    • Aug 2: Sunday evening call (6:30 PM)
    • Aug 3: Day shift
    • Aug 4: Day shift (optional call)
    • Aug 5: Day shift
    • Aug 6: Day shift (optional call)
    • Aug 7: Day shift
    • Aug 13: Day shift (optional call)
    • Sep–Dec: Additional dates TBD for ongoing coverage
  • Schedule: Weekday start at 6:30 AM; end time varies with OR case volume
  • Typical shift length: ~12 hours
  • Practice setting: Hospital
  • Patient mix: ~20% inpatient / 80% outpatient
  • Anesthesia model: Physician direction
  • Coverage: Up to 3 ORs (occasionally 4)
  • EMR: Epic with Dragon dictation

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive perioperative anesthesia care for surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.
  • Provide anesthesia across a broad range of specialties, including general surgery, thoracic, neurosurgery, cardiac, trauma, pediatrics, and obstetrics.
  • Cover both OR and non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) locations.
  • Perform pre-anesthetic evaluations and postoperative assessments.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, CRNAs, nursing, and perioperative teams to maintain safe, high-quality care.
  • Complete timely documentation in Epic.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency.
  • Board certified or board eligible in anesthesiology.
  • Active Michigan medical license or eligibility for an unrestricted Michigan license.
  • Michigan Controlled Substance License or eligibility to obtain.
  • Current ACLS and PALS (AHA).
  • Eligible for hospital credentialing and privileges.

This role is ideal for a flexible, team-oriented anesthesiologist seeking short-term locum work with the option for extended engagement through the fall.
