Locums Emergency Medicine Physician — Ongoing 12-hr Shifts, Low-Acuity ED in Houston, TX

A community-based Emergency Department in Houston, TX is seeking a Locums Emergency Medicine Physician for an ongoing assignment. This role suits clinicians who prefer a lower-acuity setting, manageable patient volumes, and strong on-site clinical support.

Assignment & Schedule

• Ongoing locum opportunity
• 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM–6:00 PM or 6:00 PM–6:00 AM
• No call requirements

Clinical Setting

• 11-bed ED with annual volume of ~15,000–16,000 visits
• Average daily census: 30–40 patients
• Admission rate ~13% (4–5 admissions/day)
• Primarily young, generally healthy population
• Low-acuity practice; not a designated trauma, stroke, or cardiac center
• Minimal EMS arrivals

Core Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage a broad range of emergency conditions, primarily low- to moderate-acuity
• Perform standard ED procedures appropriate to the setting
• Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostics
• Provide care across adult, pediatric, and gynecologic patients
• Coordinate with consultants and pediatrics as needed
• Accurately document encounters in the facility’s electronic medical record

• Experienced ED nursing and ancillary staff
• Standard hospital specialty call services
• Separate dedicated Labor & Delivery unit
• Pediatrician coverage in the ED during peak hours

Qualifications

• ABEM board certification preferred; non-EM boarded physicians considered with extensive ED experience and comfort treating pediatric and gynecologic patients
• Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
• Current DEA registration
• Required certifications: ACLS, ATLS, PALS, BLS (as applicable)
