Summary:

The Lead Registered Nurse Clinical Educator serves as a key mentor and strategic resource within the nursing education team, advancing clinical excellence and supporting ministry and systemwide learning initiatives. While not a supervisory role, this role provides guidance, mentorship, and support to Clinical Educators, fostering professional growth, collaboration, and consistency in educational practices. In partnership with the Director of Clinical Education, the Lead Clinical Educator manages special projects, contributes to the development and execution of the organizational learning strategy, and ensures alignment with regulatory standards and best practices. This role leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of high-impact education programs leveraging adult learning principles and advanced & innovative modalities such as simulation, digital, blended, and microlearning. The Lead Clinical Educator acts as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to clinical and operational leaders, driving onboarding, orientation, and ongoing competency development across multiple specialties and facilities. Through collaboration, mentorship, and strategic thinking, this role promotes a culture of continuous learning, clinical proficiency, and workforce development that supports organizational goals and quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Serves as a mentor and resource for Clinical Educators, promoting consistency and excellence in educational practices.
  • Collaborate with the Director on special projects and strategic initiatives related to nursing and clinical education and development.
  • Leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of education programs and competency frameworks.
  • Conducts learning needs assessments to identify gaps in clinical knowledge, skills, and practice.
  • Coordinates and validates clinical competencies for new hires and existing staff, including annual skills assessments and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practice and adult learning principles to create innovative learning experiences, including simulation and digital learning.
  • Leads initiatives to promote evidence-based practice and supports translation of research into clinical application across the system.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support interprofessional education and shared learning experiences.
  • Maintain documentation of educational activities, competency validations, and outcomes for compliance and quality improvement.
  • Partners with clinical and operational leaders to align education strategies with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, recommending improvements based on data and outcomes.
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives and contributes to organizational planning efforts.
  • Participates in and leads committees and initiatives focused on clinical education, safety, and performance improvement.
  • Represents the education team on ministry and system-level committees and initiatives focused on clinical education, safety, and performance improvement.
  • Responsible for assisting with compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards as needed (e.g., CMS, DNV, Joint Commission, etc.)
  • Responsible for other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Education, or related field is required
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and technology-enhanced learning tools (simulation, LMS, eLearning platforms)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills required

Experience

  • 2 years of clinical experience required
  • 3 - 5 years of nursing education experience preferred
  • Prior experience in program development and mentorship preferred
  • Proficiency in instructional design and technology-based learning platforms required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • RN licensure in the state of employment or compact required
  • ANCC Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) preferred
  • BLS required within 30 days of hire

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
