Required qualifications

  • Active Hawaii RN license by assignment start. Applicants without a State of HI license must apply immediately upon acceptance.
  • Minimum 2 years’ RN experience (critical care experience such as ER or ICU may substitute for PACU experience).
  • Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association.
  • Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption prior to contract start (flu vaccine may be given during employee health clearance).

Recommended / may be required

  • PALS (American Heart Association) recommended; may be required for specific roles.
  • Other specialty certifications (e.g., NIHSS, TNCC) preferred and may be required for specific positions.

Core responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for pre-op patients and for Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery.
  • Monitor and assess patients’ vital signs, incision sites, temperature, pain, airway and neurological status; recognize and respond to complications.
  • Deliver advanced post-anesthesia care consistent with PACU and critical care standards, including airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and prioritization of care in high-acuity situations.
  • Communicate with perioperative team, anesthesia, and physicians regarding patient status and handoffs.
  • Maintain documentation, adhere to infection control and facility policies, and participate in patient discharge planning from PACU.
