Job Description
Seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible psychiatrist to provide onsite inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care for Veterans at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN. The clinician will deliver high-quality, evidence-based treatment across inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and residential programs, collaborating closely with VA-employed mental health teams and documenting care in accordance with VA policies and performance standards.
Schedule & on-call
- Locum opportunity with part-time and full-time shifts.
- Regular onsite hours Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (inpatient coverage until 5:00 PM).
- Weekend coverage as scheduled: Saturday–Sunday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
- On-call coverage required when clinics are closed (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Must be reachable by phone within 15 minutes and able to report onsite within 60 minutes; provide after-hours phone consultation to VA residents and staff.
Core responsibilities
- Inpatient: Conduct admissions, psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, medication management, and discharges; collaborate with multidisciplinary VA teams and complete timely medical records.
- Outpatient: Evaluate new referrals, manage patients with severe mental illness, complete consults/e-consults, and perform post-discharge follow-up; maintain approximately 6–6.5 bookable patient hours per day.
- Clinic & residential programs: Provide care in general mental health and specialty programs (PRRC, MHICM, PTSD, RRTP); review clinical reports and maintain punctual clinic attendance.
- Quality & administration: Participate in peer review, case assessments, and quality improvement activities; attend staff meetings and complete required administrative duties (~5% of time).
Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry (ABPN).
- Valid U.S. medical license (any state).
- BLS required; ACLS preferred.
