Summary:
Responsible for overseeing all radiation therapy operations within the oncology department to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care. Provides leadership for radiation therapy staff, manages treatment planning and delivery workflows, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies. Collaborates with radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, and other clinical team members to optimize treatment protocols and patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the radiation therapy department, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality patient care.
- Supervise radiation therapy staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists, physicists, and dosimetrists to ensure accurate treatment planning and delivery.
- Oversee radiation oncology charge capture and billing operations by ensuring technical and professional services are accurately documented, coded, reconciled, and transmitted to the hospital billing system. Conduct routine billing audits to verify documentation supports submitted charges and ensure compliance with CMS, state, commercial payer, and organizational billing requirements.
- Coordinate revenue cycle activities by partnering with scheduling, coding, finance, and revenue cycle teams to monitor prior authorizations, resolve billing denials and claim discrepancies, and maintain the department's Charge Description Master (CDM) to support accurate reimbursement and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
- Monitor and maintain radiation therapy equipment; coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for radiation therapy operations and patient safety.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets; monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Provide education and training for staff on new technologies, protocols, and best practices.
- Monitor quality metrics and participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
- Respond to and resolve complex clinical or operational issues related to radiation therapy services.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the radiation therapy team.
Requirements:
- Associates degree in Radiation Therapy or related field required
- 5 years of experience as a radiation therapist in a clinical setting required.
- 2 years of supervisory or management experience in radiation therapy operations required.
- Strong knowledge of radiation therapy techniques, treatment planning systems, and regulatory compliance required.
- Proficiency in managing departmental budgets, staffing, and operational workflows required.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams required.
- Ability to develop and maintain policies and procedures in compliance-driven environments required.
- Experience implementing quality improvement initiatives and monitoring clinical outcomes preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 60 days of hire.
- Current certification as a Radiation Therapist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required.
