Locums Emergency Medicine Physician — Freestanding ED, Independence MO (Day/Night Shifts)

A freestanding emergency department in Independence, Missouri is seeking a locum Emergency Medicine physician to provide coverage in a supportive, lower-acuity setting. This role is well suited to clinicians who prefer collaborative practice with APP support, manageable patient volumes, and no call responsibilities.

Position highlights

• Facility: Freestanding emergency department affiliated with a Level II Trauma Center
• Shifts: Day (7:00 AM–7:00 PM) and night (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) coverage available
• Coverage model: Single-physician shifts with APP support
• Patient volume: Approximately 1.6 patients per hour
• Admission rate: Approximately 5% or less
• Call: No additional call required

Clinical environment

• Primarily low-acuity urgent and emergency presentations, with occasional higher-acuity walk-ins
• Department layout: 0 treatment rooms and 1 triage space
• Not designated as a trauma center at the freestanding site; transfers to affiliated Level II Trauma Center as needed

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients presenting with a broad range of emergency and urgent conditions
• Perform standard ED procedures within scope of practice
• Identify, stabilize, and arrange transfer or escalation for higher-acuity patients
• Collaborate with APPs, nursing staff, and ancillary teams to ensure efficient patient flow
• Complete accurate and timely medical documentation

Support staff

• Full complement of standard ED support personnel
• Advanced Practice Provider coverage available during physician shifts

Qualifications

• Board certified in Emergency Medicine
• Active Missouri medical license or ability to obtain licensure
• Current DEA registration
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications as required
