Job Summary:
Leading Heart Program in Charleston, South Carolina is seeking a skilled CT-APP with EVH experience to join in assisting their 2 employed cardiothoracic surgeons and 3 APPs at HCA Healthcare Charleston.
Join a Growing Cardiothoracic Surgery Program:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Cardiothoracic APP (Physician Assistant or Acute Care NP) to join our expanding cardiothoracic surgery program. The position offers a balanced blend of operative first assisting, ICU management, and perioperative patient care within a high-volume cardiac program.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a collaborative environment alongside cardiothoracic surgeons and is committed to delivering exceptional patient outcomes across a continuum of care.
Qualified Candidates/Details:
- Graduated from an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program
- Have a South Carolina license or the ability to get a South Carolina license prior to starting
- 2 or more years’ experience in first-assist for adult cardiothoracic surgical procedures (CABG, valves, aortic surgery) or other complex surgical procedures
- Endoscopic saphenous vein harvest (EVH) preferred (willing to train)
- Participate in urgent and emergent operative cases
- Daily management of postoperative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients
- Hemodynamic assessment and management
- Coordination of multidisciplinary teams
- Discharge planning and transition of care
- Participation in night and weekend OR call with expected coverage 1:3. No overnight shifts required
Preferred candidates will have experience with:
- Chest tube placement and management
- Central venous catheter placement
- Arterial line placement
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal
Candidates with strong cardiothoracic surgery experience who are interested in expanding their skill set will receive training in:
- Advanced perioperative cardiothoracic procedures
You are a team-oriented APP who enjoys both the technical aspects of cardiothoracic surgery and the complexity of managing critically ill post-operative patients. You thrive in the OR, are confident in the ICU, and are committed to helping build a premier cardiac surgery program while maintaining excellent patient outcomes.
