Locum Tenens Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular Surgeon — Joplin, MO (Dec 2026–Jan 2027; Ongoing 2027 Coverage)

Board-certified or board-eligible Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgeon needed for locum tenens coverage in Joplin, Missouri. Candidate should have experience across adult cardiac and vascular procedures; general thoracic surgery experience strongly preferred. Opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team and provide operative and inpatient surgical care.

Assignment details

• Initial coverage: December 18, 2026, 7:00 AM through January 2, 2027 (options to extend to January 3 or January 8, 2027)
• Candidates unable to cover entire assignment may be considered through January 2
• Ongoing 2027 need: 1–2 weeks per month
• Average workday: 6–8 hours

Compensation and logistics

• Daily rate: $6,900/day, all-inclusive (malpractice and travel/lodging excluded)
• Malpractice: $200/day
• Holiday rate: 1.5x
• Travel/lodging: candidate responsibility unless otherwise arranged

Clinical responsibilities

• Adult cardiovascular surgery: cardiac and vascular procedures
• Inpatient rounding, operative care, and perioperative management of cardiovascular surgical patients
• Collaborate with cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, and critical care teams
• Provide general thoracic surgery and interventions if experienced
• Provide associated cardiac, vascular, and/or thoracic coverage as appropriate to experience

Case volumes

• Annual CABG volume: ~130 cases
• TAVR volume: comparable to CABG volume

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Board-eligible physicians must obtain certification within 5 years of residency
• Active Missouri medical license or Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) acceptance; IMLC candidates must obtain Missouri license before start date
• ACLS required if requesting conscious sedation privileges
• Flu and COVID vaccinations required, or qualifying medical/religious exemptions accepted
• No minimum years of experience required

Preferences

• Candidates within driving distance preferred
• Preference for candidates with no malpractice history
• Prefer ability to commit to 1–2 weeks per month throughout 2027
