Job Summary:

HCA Healthcare Pathology Services and their Gulf Coast Division is seeking an Associate Pathologist for The Women’s Hospital of Texas.


HCA Healthcare Pathology Services employs over 200 board certified multispecialty pathologists nationwide and provides professional services to over 100 HCA Healthcare owned hospitals as well as commercial clients. Our physician partners are a key component to our success, and we work closely with them to achieve the most favorable patient outcomes.

Qualified Candidates:

  • AP/CP Board Certification required
  • Available to new graduates
  • Texas licensed or ability to obtain
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience managing a large group

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Week Days: Three pathologists covering the hospital onsite. Total volume of approximately 11000 surgicals (negligible amount of smear reviews and cytology). Specimen are Gyn, Breast, placentas and less than 10 percent general surgicals including appendix, gallbladders, GI biopsies and Colons
  • Week Day Call: 6pm to 7am following day; one in four pathologists each week (one call per week not including the weekend)
  • Weekend Call: Calls include four hospitals – Women’s, Medical Center, HCA West and HCA Pearland; One long weekend call: 1 of the 6 long weekends assigned and distributed equally well in advance for planning
  • Offsite frozen sections: HCA Pearland procedures (scheduled on your calendar by the hospital laboratory staff)
  • Typical Workload: surgicals are ready by 9am, same day recuts, minimal grossing
  • Frozen sections: total of 10 to 15 intraoperative calls PER MONTH; assisted by the PA and Histology staff
