Locum General Inpatient Cardiologist needed in NY

We are looking for a Board-Certified Cardiologist to provide inpatient general cardiology coverage while they recruit a permanent physician. This locum position is anticipated to begin around November 2026, lasts approximately six months, and may be extended.

Schedule and Coverage

• Two weeks of coverage per month, including two weekends per month
• Typical shift: 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
• Recurring block availability is strongly preferred
• Exact rotation and start date to be confirmed

What you’ll do

• Provide hospital-based general cardiology consultations and daily rounding
• Evaluate and manage a broad range of cardiovascular conditions, including:
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes
  • Chest pain
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Hypertension
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Syncope and other general cardiovascular issues
• Review EKGs, telemetry, and other diagnostic studies
• Develop treatment plans and discharge recommendations
• Coordinate care with hospitalists, Emergency Medicine, ICU/critical care, and other consultants
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team
• Complete clinical documentation accurately and in a timely manner

Possible diagnostic or procedural duties (client-dependent)

• EKG, echocardiogram, and stress test interpretation
• Nuclear cardiology study interpretation
• Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
• Cardioversion
• Participation in rapid-response or code coverage

Required qualifications

• MD or DO with fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease
• Board Certified in Cardiology (Board Eligible candidates will not be considered)
• Active, unrestricted New York medical license (New York is not an IMLC state)
• Active DEA and appropriate prescriptive authority
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Recent inpatient general cardiology experience and ability to work independently in an acute-care hospital
• Ability to provide recurring two-week blocks and weekend coverage

Licensing and credentialing notes

• An active New York medical license is required; temporary hospital privileges may be available for qualified physicians with a complete, clean credentialing file
• Be prepared to provide required credentialing and privileging documentation promptly
