Locum Tenens Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular Surgeon - Joplin, MO (Dec 2026-Ongoing)

We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage in Joplin, Missouri. The ideal candidate will be experienced across adult cardiac and vascular procedures; proficiency in general thoracic surgery is highly valued. You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive operative and inpatient care to a diverse patient population.

Assignment details

• Initial coverage: begins December 18, 2026 at 7:00 AM through January 2, 2027 (options to extend through January 3 or January 8, 2027). Candidates who cannot cover the full extended dates may be considered for coverage through January 2.
• Ongoing 2027 need: 1-2 weeks per month.
• Preference for candidates within driving distance, with no prior malpractice history, and able to commit to recurring 1-2 week blocks in 2027.
• Daily compensation: $6,900/day (all-inclusive, excludes malpractice and travel/lodging).
• Malpractice: $200/day (separate).
• Holiday pay: 1.5x.
• Typical workday: 6-8 hours.
• Annual procedural volumes: approximately 130 CABG cases; TAVR volume comparable.

Clinical responsibilities

• Provide adult cardiovascular surgical care, including cardiac and vascular procedures.
• Perform operative cases, inpatient rounding, and post-operative management.
• Collaborate closely with cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, and critical care teams.
• General thoracic surgery and related interventions are a strong asset.
• Provide additional cardiac, vascular, and/or thoracic coverage as needed based on experience.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery. Board-eligible physicians must obtain certification within five years of residency.
• Active Missouri medical license or participation in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC). IMLC applicants must be able to secure a Missouri license before the start date.
• No minimum years of practice required.
• ACLS required if requesting conscious sedation privileges.
• Flu and COVID vaccinations required unless a qualifying medical or religious exemption is provided.
