Locums Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Physician - Level II Trauma Center, Amarillo TX

A Level II Trauma Center in Amarillo, TX seeks a locum Trauma & Acute Care Surgery physician for ongoing, shift-based coverage in a high-volume, multidisciplinary program.

Facility and Volumes

• 495-bed acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
• ~1,618 trauma activations/year

• 1,000 trauma admissions/year

• ~500 acute care surgery operative cases/year

Coverage and Schedule

• In-house trauma and ACS coverage
• Backup call as scheduled
• 24-hour shifts including call
• 30-minute callback response time when on backup call

Primary Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage trauma and emergency general surgery patients
• Perform operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries
• Provide acute care surgery consultations and procedures
• Participate in trauma activations and multidisciplinary care
• Collaborate with emergency medicine, critical care, hospitalist, and surgical teams
• Accurately document encounters in the facility EMR

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
• Fellowship in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, or Acute Care Surgery preferred
• Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain one
• Current ATLS certification
• Demonstrated trauma and acute care surgery experience
• Strong clinical decision-making skills; able to function in a fast-paced environment
