Locum Tenens Psychiatrist (Adult/Child) - Part-Time, In-Person - Developmental Disabilities Clinic, San Jose, CA

Location: San Jose, California

Overview
Provide long-term, part-time in-person psychiatric care for developmentally disabled patients with co-occurring mental health disorders. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team serving a diverse adult and pediatric population.

Schedule & Compensation

• Approximately 16 hours per week (some flexibility)
• In-person, office-based (no remote option)
• Rate: $220-$230 per hour, depending on experience
• Typical patient load: 6-10 patients per 7.5-hour day (varies with evaluations vs. follow-ups)

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status exams
• Diagnose and manage psychiatric conditions, including medication prescribing (controlled substances included)
• Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clinical staff
• Treat adults and pediatric patients with developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders (common diagnoses: anxiety, depression, intermittent explosive disorder, disruptive mood disorder, OCD, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder)
• Review labs, diagnostic studies, and consults as needed
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, clinicians, and case managers
• Educate and support families and caregivers
• Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation and participate in quality improvement and case review activities
• Complete legal or court-related documentation as required, including a limited number of JV-220 cases
• Document hours through the required timekeeping platform

Requirements

• Active California medical license
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Adult and/or Child Psychiatry (ABPN) - Board certification strongly preferred; Board Eligible considered (must obtain board certification within 5 years of residency)
• Comfortable treating pediatric patients
• Eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal certification
• Authorized to prescribe controlled substances
• Flu and COVID-19 vaccination required, or approved medical/religious exemption
