Locum Tenens OB/GYN Physician - 24-Hour Call Coverage, Petersburg VA

We’re looking for a Board-Certified OB/GYN to provide locum tenens coverage in Petersburg, Virginia. This opportunity involves 24-hour call coverage plus scheduled clinic sessions to keep care seamless while the regular provider is away. There may be ongoing opportunities beyond the listed dates for the right candidate.

What the schedule looks like

• Shift: 24-hour coverage (7:00 AM - 7:00 AM)
• Coverage dates: December 17-24 and December 31, 2026
• Call ratio: 1:4
• Clinic volume: roughly 20 scheduled patients per day
• Call-backs: on average fewer than one per 24-hour shift; calls come through an answering service

Clinical setting and resources

• Hospital-based OB/GYN practice with L&D and postpartum coverage
• Facility: 9 labor & delivery beds and 20 postpartum beds
• Nursery admissions: typically 2-3 per day
• EMR: Epic
• High-risk patients: most managed in collaboration with Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)

Key responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour OB/GYN call coverage and respond to patient needs during your shift
• See scheduled outpatient clinic patients
• Manage labor and deliveries, including vaginal births and cesarean sections
• Evaluate and treat gynecologic emergencies (e.g., ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion)
• Perform suction D&Cs and manage abnormal uterine bleeding
• Document all encounters and plans in Epic
• Coordinate care with MFM and other members of the care team as needed

Qualifications and requirements

• Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG)
• Active Virginia medical license
• Active Virginia DEA registration and Controlled Substance Registration (CSR)
• BLS certification
• Availability to provide 24-hour coverage on the specified dates
