Locum Cardiothoracic/Cardiovascular Surgeon - Joplin, MO (Dec 2026-ongoing)

We’re looking for a Board Certified or Board Eligible cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgeon to provide locum tenens coverage in Joplin, Missouri. You’ll join a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive operative care to a diverse adult patient population. Strong experience across adult cardiac and vascular procedures is essential, and general thoracic surgery experience is highly valued.

Position highlights

• Coverage window: starts December 18, 2026 at 7:00 AM through January 2, 2027 (candidates who cannot cover the entire assignment may be considered through January 2); potential extension through January 8, 2027.
• Ongoing 2027 need: 1-2 weeks per month.
• Preference for candidates who are within driving distance, have no malpractice history, and can commit to 1-2 weeks per month throughout 2027.
• Daily rate: $6,900/day (all-inclusive, excludes malpractice and travel/lodging).
• Malpractice: $200/day.
• Holiday rate: 1.5x.
• Average workday: 6-8 hours.
• Annual CABG volume: approximately 130 cases.
• TAVR volume: comparable to CABG volume.

Clinical responsibilities

• Provide adult cardiovascular surgical care, including cardiac and vascular procedures.
• Perform inpatient rounding and operative care; manage cardiovascular surgical patients throughout their stay.
• Collaborate closely with cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, and critical care teams.
• General thoracic surgery and interventions are a strong plus; ability to cover cardiac, vascular, and/or thoracic cases based on experience is desirable.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgery. Board Eligible physicians must obtain certification within five years of residency completion.
• Active Missouri medical license or participation in IMLC. IMLC applicants are acceptable if they can secure a Missouri license before the start date.
• No minimum years of experience required.
• ACLS required if requesting conscious sedation privileges.
• Flu and COVID vaccinations required unless a qualifying medical or religious exemption is provided.
