Job Description

The Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is inviting applications for a faculty position in Surgical Education, open rank, non-tenure stream. The assigned faculty will play an integral role in curriculum development, education research, and program evaluation. Outstanding individuals are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a PhD in education, psychology, sociology or relevant field, or should have an EdD degree. Training and experience with research design as well as quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods is required. Experience or interest in medical education, especially across the continuum of student and physician learning, is encouraged. In addition, the candidate should have experience or interest in grant writing as well as experience and interest in publishing and presenting scholarly works in medical education. The desired candidate should have a demonstrated ability in curriculum development, instructional design, implementation, assessment and evaluation. Individuals should have well-developed relationship-building skills, analytical and critical thinking skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will play an integral role in scholarship, assessment and innovation in curriculum and instruction. Duties will include curriculum development and implementation, program evaluation, faculty development and grant writing to support the design, application and evaluation of innovative curricula, methods of instruction and assessments of learning. The successful candidate will collaborate and lead initiatives to promote scholarship resulting from program innovations while developing an independent research program.  The faculty member will guide the overall research mission of our surgical education program and will also mentor surgeons in their research efforts.
