Required credentials

  • Active LPN license for the state of New Mexico
  • BLS certification

Core responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care under RN/physician direction: medication administration, wound care, vital signs, and basic treatments.
  • Perform patient assessments (physical exam, medical history, medication review) and contribute to individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and per protocol; document administration.
  • Clean, dress, and monitor wounds/incisions for infection or complications.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, respirations) and report changes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely patient records of condition changes, treatments, and meds.
  • Educate patients and families about conditions, medications, self-care, and preventive measures.
  • Start, monitor, and manage IV lines and IV medications/fluids as indicated.
  • Manage urinary catheters (insertion, maintenance, monitoring) and identify complications.
  • Collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum) for lab testing and ensure proper handling/labeling.
  • Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff to coordinate care.
  • Assist with patient comfort, positioning, mobility, and pain management.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide basic life support per protocol.
  • Follow infection control policies and PPE procedures.
  • Safely handle, store, and dispose of medications and supplies according to regulations.
  • Promote preventive care (vaccinations, screenings) and support health assessments.
  • Advocate for patient rights and needs within the care team.
  • Supervise CNAs or unlicensed assistive personnel when assigned.
  • Complete required continuing education and training; perform other duties as assigned by management.
