Job Description
A respected healthcare system in Lansing, Michigan seeks a fellowship-trained Neonatology physician to provide locum coverage in a busy Level III NICU and Special Care Nursery. This role offers collaborative care with advanced clinical resources, dedicated NICU support staff, and a balanced mix of daytime shifts and overnight home call.
Assignment details
- Dates: July 1, 2026 – July 1, 2027
- Practice setting: Level III NICU & Special Care Nursery
- Shift structure: 10-hour day shifts; 14-hour night home call
- Call: Required; must be able to arrive onsite within 30 minutes when called
- Call ratio: 1:4
- Weekend coverage: Required
- EMR: EPIC

- Average admissions per day: 3
- Bed capacity: 33 licensed NICU beds, 12 Special Care Nursery beds, 2 bassinets (47 total)
Clinical responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive neonatal care in a Level III NICU, including attendance at high‑risk deliveries and cesarean sections
- Manage critically ill neonates requiring advanced respiratory and hemodynamic support
- Ventilation management experience required (BiPAP/CPAP, oscillator ventilators, inhaled nitric oxide)
- Perform neonatal procedures: chest tube placement, central and arterial lines, PA catheter, UVC/UAC, and PICC placement
- Participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency management
- Supervise and collaborate with Neonatal Nurse Practitioners as needed
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in EPIC
Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Fellowship-trained and board certified in Neonatology
- Active Michigan medical license
- Current NALS certification
