Seeking a board-certified anesthesiologist for locum tenens inpatient coverage in Colorado Springs, CO (Oct 22, 2026 – Jul 31, 2027). This role provides clinical care and call coverage at a Level I trauma center using Epic. Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are provided.

Schedule

  • Weekday shifts: Mon–Fri, 07:00–17:00
  • Weekend day coverage: Fri–Mon, 07:00–17:00
  • Weekend night coverage: Fri–Tue, 17:00–07:00
  • Must cover two consecutive weeks per month, including weekends; shift assignments may be AM, PM, or both.

Clinical Volume & Case Mix

  • Average: ~60 surgical cases/day
  • Patient population: primarily adult (80%); trauma ~20% (mostly adult)
  • Case mix: General 50%, Complex vascular 20%, Complex ortho 20%, Neurosurgery 10%

Facility & Support

  • Level I trauma center
  • EMR: Epic
  • Difficult airway equipment available
  • Specialty backup: other anesthesiologists on site
  • CRNA support: group of 30; supervision up to 3 CRNAs concurrently

Required Privileges, Procedures & Skills

  • Hospital privileges required; credentialing ≈ 3 months
  • Provide general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care for adult and trauma patients
  • Perform and manage: spinal and epidural anesthesia, central and arterial line placement, ultrasound-guided peripheral and minor nerve blocks, IV regional anesthesia, neuraxial and regional techniques, local infiltration
  • Manage acute pain, ventilation, intravascular volume and blood-pressure issues
  • Comfortable with neurosurgical, obstetrical, complex vascular (excluding open heart), and complex orthopedic cases
  • Supervisory experience overseeing CRNAs

Qualifications

  • Board certified in Anesthesiology (required; board-eligible not accepted)
  • Active Colorado medical license or IMLC preferred; candidates requiring licensure will be considered
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Minimum 2 years Level I trauma experience post-residency required
  • Comfortable with pediatric emergencies (PEDs) and open vascular procedures
  • Clean malpractice and background preferred; local candidates preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, efficient anesthesia care across a high-volume operative service
  • Supervise CRNAs and coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams
  • Participate in weekday and weekend call coverage as scheduled
